Hedge as a Membrane
2021- ongoing
HaaM is a collaborative ongoing experiment into the permeability between property lines. As someone that often experiences moderate to severe depressive and social anxiety states, I need the ability to feel alone. However, in order to realize future systems, humans must be engaged in entangled ecologies, which often require a degree of public or group participation. That approach does not always work for me, and this is an effort to consider what those entanglements can look like without relying on direct human interaction. Generous futures must be inclusive to all bodies.
2022
The tulips planted in the fall were initially intended to be offered for harvesting, but as they began to emerge from the ground and grow in a way perceivable to me, that decision did not feel like the best one. They grew - well most of them, as I believe the deer ate some of them- the blossomed and are now in the next phase of their life cycle.
Meanwhile, I was in preparation for a more expansive approach this year following and inspired by the permaculture practices. However, I have been experiencing a depressive state and that is not possible. As frustrating as that is, it is necessary to pause, and take time to care of oneself.
Current modes of experimentation include collecting gardening tools such as gloves, seeds, planters, and trowels, as a way to provide what is needed to engage in these ideas in a decentralized manner.
Permaculture
How can the principles and practices of permaculture converse with these approaches?
Soil research revealed a divide on the artificially designated property between Te (teel silt loam) and PgA (Palmyra gravelly loam) soil types.

A small 4’x8’ garden a few feet off the property line culminating in two zines- one long form and the second a seed packet zine that will be shop dropped in early 2022.
